If you have a good idea, creating a new food product can be fun and exciting to do yourself. As a consultant I do some product development, but it can become expensive, and I generally prefer to coach people to be able to do it themselves, safely.

Often people will call and tell me they have a wonderful idea that they want to commercialise – and that nothing like it exists on the market at the moment. More than once I’ve had to say that the reason it’s not on the market is because the product is fundamentally unsafe and could kill someone if you sold it.

If you do want to develop a product, then I do suggest you take the DIY route, but with some help right from the start. At Food Action we can usually figure out what is right and wrong about your product during a quick phone call and can ensure you are heading in the right direction.
